About Me & My Work

Aminah Hopewell is a professional dancer, choreographer, singer, and actor. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Aminah has dedicated their artistry to questioning the functions of society by focusing on the Black American experience. Their extensive studies in Black Studies and Dance at Skidmore College has been a foundational tool within their choreographic works, fueling their passion for activism through art. With a background in African diasporic movement forms such as Hip-Hop, West African, Afro-Contemporary, Afro-Caribbean, and Jazz, Aminah utilizes these movement languages to have open conversations about racism, gender discrimination, sexuality, spirituality, and the intersectionality of societal issues within historical and contemporary contexts. Aminah has worked with transformative choreographers such as Robert Battle, Shakia “The Key” Barron, and Hettie Barnhill who have helped shape their ever growing artistic expression. Aminah is a member of the Lin-Manuel Miranda Family Fellowship which has provided guidance and opportunities for their artistry to be seen and heard. Aminah draws from the experiences of those around them, inspired by the way people move throughout the world. Join them in following the journey of life, change, and forever blooming curiosity.
